Bronze 1972 memorial to The Hill's Italian immigrant families

The Italian Immigrants statue is a bronze memorial to the Italian families who settled The Hill in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It stands at the corner of Marconi and Wilson avenues beside St. Ambrose Church, the parish Italian immigrants founded in the neighborhood.
The sculpture by Rudolph Torrini was completed and dedicated in 1972. The Hill 2000 Association commissioned it and still owns it. It shows a young immigrant couple in turn-of-the-century clothing. The mother looks down as she holds a newborn to her chest, while the father, carrying a single suitcase, steps forward with an arm around her and his eyes set ahead. The pairing suggests both the hardship the family left behind and their hopes for a future in America.
The roughly seven-foot statue is outdoors on a public corner and can be seen at any time. It is free to visit.
