STL Toasted makes the former Mama Toscano’s its only home

The toasted ravioli specialist left City Foundry STL at the end of October 2025 to focus on its Macklind Avenue shop in the former Mama Toscano’s.

STL Toasted, the restaurant built around St. Louis’ signature appetizer, is consolidating on The Hill. Owners Matthew Fuller and Brittany Abernathy left their stall at City Foundry STL at the end of October 2025 to concentrate on their shop at 2201 Macklind Ave., following plans announced earlier in the month and reported by St. Louis Magazine.

In a Facebook post quoted by St. Louis Magazine, the owners said the move would let them focus on their brick-and-mortar shop free of a food hall’s rules and limits.

A century-old address

The Macklind building was long home to Mama Toscano’s. The business began as a neighborhood market in 1910 and was run by generations of the Toscano family, most recently Patty and Nick Toscano. The Riverfront Times reported in August 2022 that the shop had been closed for months and that the owners were retiring.

Fuller and Abernathy, a married couple, launched STL Toasted at City Foundry in 2022. They soon outgrew their kitchen there and signed a lease on the Toscano building, first using it as a production space. The Riverfront Times reported their food hall contract barred a second location within five miles at the time.

Opening the storefront

In early 2025 the couple opened a takeout-only shop in the building, Feast Magazine reported. Feast put the new kitchen at roughly 1,500 square feet, compared with about 390 at the Foundry. “We’ve been able to move all our production over to this bigger kitchen,” Fuller told Feast.

Fuller also told Feast that Nick Toscano shared his roast beef recipe, which STL Toasted adapted for a house roast beef sandwich.

What they make

The menu centers on sweet and savory toasted ravioli. Its website lists traditional, three-cheese and jalapeño popper versions, plus a dessert ravioli with powdered sugar and caramel. The shop also sells its marinara in jars and frozen ravioli to cook at home, and it offers catering. Hours are limited and have changed over time, so check before visiting.
