Urzi’s Italian Market
Italian grocery since 1926: lemon ice, spedini, Thursday salsiccia
Family-run salumi maker curing salami and prosciutto since 1902

Volpi Foods has made cured meats on The Hill since 1902. Milanese immigrant John Volpi founded it as a salami maker and at first produced small salami sized to fit in coal miners’ pockets. His wife’s relative Armando Pasetti came from Italy in 1938 to learn the business, and after Volpi’s death in 1957 he grew it into a national brand. Armando’s daughter Lorenza Pasetti became CEO in 2002, and the company is still family-owned.
Volpi produces about 130 dry-cured products, including Genoa and peppered salame, prosciutto, coppa, mortadella and bresaola, plus snack packs such as its mozzarella-and-prosciutto Roltini. Its products are sold nationally and abroad.
The retail shop is at the company’s original home on Daggett Avenue and was remodeled and expanded in 2017. It sells sliced meats, specialty items and gifts, and products can also be ordered online for shipping.
