Charlie’s Market & Deli on the Hill
Imo family's deli and market selling house-made meats, subs and pizza
Build-your-own sandwich shop serving the neighborhood since 1968

Southwest Market Cuisine is a small counter-service sandwich shop at the corner of Columbia and Brannon avenues, near the foot of The Hill. A 2000 profile in the Saint Louis University student paper reported that the shop opened in 1968. At the time it was run by Gene “Randy” Burr, who made a point of learning regulars’ names.
The specialty is a build-your-own sandwich: choose a bread, then layer meats and cheeses such as ham, pastrami, Volpi salami and braunschweiger, and finish with vegetables and dressings. House favorites include the Poor Boy on French bread, the Ham and Beef Delight, the BLT and the Meatball Delight, which comes on garlic bread with Provel. The menu also has soups, salads, pastas and party-size sandwiches.
Third-party listings show daytime hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday through Saturday, with the shop closed Wednesdays and Sundays. Confirm hours by phone before visiting.
