Hill trattoria that claims to be the birthplace of toasted ravioli

Mama’s on the Hill is a family-owned Italian restaurant on Edwards Street whose history goes back to 1939, when Leopold Oldani opened it as Oldani’s. It became Mama Campisi’s in 1982, closed in 2005, and reopened in 2006 under owners Lance and Andrea Ervin. It has gone by Mama’s on the Hill since then.
The restaurant says it is where toasted ravioli was invented. The story usually told is that in the early 1940s a cook dropped ravioli into a deep fryer instead of boiling water, though the claim can’t be independently confirmed. Besides toasted ravioli, the menu includes meatballs, minestrone, cheese bread, risotto, fettuccine Alfredo, Bolognese, lasagna and tiramisu. The restaurant has appeared on Restaurant: Impossible and Man v. Food.
Mama’s serves lunch and dinner daily and offers reservations, takeout, delivery, catering and banquet space for events. Take-and-bake lasagna is available with 24 hours’ notice.
