Carnivore

Carnivore is a flame-grilled steakhouse at 5257 Shaw Avenue that soft-opened in May 2018 in the space formerly occupied by Mona’s. It is owned by two couples, Joe and Kerri Smugala and Mike and Casie Lutker. The Smugalas also own J. Smugs GastroPit, and Mike Lutker, who leads the kitchen, previously ran the kitchen at Gian-Tony’s Ristorante for seven years.

Steaks are the focus, with weekly steak specials alongside the regular dinner menu, and the cooking carries Italian touches such as arancini. The restaurant has a full bar with craft beer, wine and cocktails, a 5–6pm happy hour, a kids’ menu and Sunday brunch. At opening it seated about 80 in the dining room, 40 at the bar and 30 on an outdoor patio.

Dinner is served Tuesday through Thursday 5–9pm, Friday 5–10pm and Saturday 4–10pm; brunch runs Sunday 10am–2pm, and the restaurant is closed Monday. Reservations and online ordering are available through its website.
