GastroPit-STL

GastroPit-STL is a barbecue spot from the Smugala family, who previously ran Smugala’s Pizza Pub. It opened in June 2017 as J. Smugs GastroPit, in a former service station at Macklind and Bischoff. In July 2019 it moved to a small space inside the Gaslight Lounge on Shaw Avenue. It now operates from 4948 Southwest Avenue.

The menu centers on smoked meats: brisket, baby back ribs, pulled pork and chicken, with sides such as pit beans, slaw, mac and cheese and cornbread. When it opened, St. Louis Magazine highlighted a half-pound brisket burger on a pretzel bun and appetizers like pulled pork poutine and smoked wings.

GastroPit is a casual daytime operation offering dine-in, carryout and catering. It is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and takes online orders for pickup.
