Charlie’s Market & Deli on the Hill
Imo family's deli and market selling house-made meats, subs and pizza
Home of the Amighetti's Special sandwich, plus Hank's Cheesecakes

Amighetti’s is a St. Louis sandwich institution that traces its roots to a bakery Louis Amighetti opened on The Hill in 1916. In 1969 Marge Amighetti began selling sandwiches at the family bakery, and the Amighetti’s Special became one of the city’s best-known sandwiches: roast beef, salami and ham with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, pepperoncini and the house Special sauce.
The original Wilson Avenue café closed in 2019 during a licensing dispute. Anthony Favazza, who bought the brand in 2016, brought Amighetti’s back to The Hill in February 2023 at 5390 Southwest Avenue. The shop is in the former Hanneke Hardware building at the corner of Macklind, which still has its vintage Vitrolite panels and neon sign.
The shop shares the building with Hank’s Cheesecakes, which Favazza also owns. Besides the Special and its variations, the counter serves meatball sandwiches, soups, pastas and cheesecake by the slice or whole. Pickup and delivery orders can be placed online.
